Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Whenever a significant honors show nears, there’s always a demand to include additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for board games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games in the world and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
